- Diabetes is a chronic disease which is developed due to inability of Pancreas in producing enough insulin or the body inability for metabolizing sugar content of meals or both.
- Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that causes the cells to take glucose from the blood and use it to generate energy.
- Deficiency or inability in producing insulin or using it or both results in the increase of glucose level in the blood.
- High sugar content in long term causes serious harms and defects in body organs and different textures including including cardiovascular disease, kidney disease (diabetic nephropathy), neurological diseases (diabetic neuropathy) and ocular disease (diabetic retinopathy).
- Considering that half of the diabetics are unaware of their illness, the diagnosis of diabetes is of utmost importance. Common symptoms of diabetes are: Frequent urination, excessive thirst and increased hunger.
- The diabetes treatment goal is to bring blood glucose as close as possible to the normal level so that the progress of complications can be slowed or stopped.
- Normally, blood glucose levels in the blood flow ranges from 70 to 100 mg / dL. Insulin ingresses the sugar into cells, so that the sugar is used to supply energy, or stored for later use.
